Tuition and Scholarships
Tuition for 2027 is $8,500, all-inclusive. All tuition payments are non-refundable.
Every year, between 30 and 50 percent of enrolled campers are awarded some amount of scholarship aid. We have a need-blind acceptance policy, and we are committed to providing financial support whenever assistance is necessary. It is our goal that no accepted applicant is unable to attend Greenwood for financial reasons.
Greenwood does not offer partial session attendance. All campers must attend the full five-week session.
Music
Chamber Music
Each week, every student receives a new chamber music assignment on Monday morning; has a minimum of three coachings with faculty members as well as daily rehearsals without a coach; and performs that piece on the following Saturday. Faculty also run weekly chamber music workshops on rehearsal techniques, performance preparation and other topics. Each camper will receive a wide variety of assignments that could span in time from the early Classical period to the modern era, and include a range of instrumentation groups. In any given summer, over 60 movements of major works will be learned and performed for the entire community. For a sampling of chamber music played, please visit our YouTube channel.
Orchestra
The orchestra rehearses 5 times weekly and performs each Saturday. Recent works performed by the orchestra include Dmitri Shostakovich’s 9th Symphony, Missy Mazzoli’s Violin Concerto (Procession), Johannes Brahms’ 3rd Symphony, as well as new commissions for the Greenwood Orchestra.
Vocal Music
The full choir (Sing) rehearses 3 times weekly and performs at each concert as well as at community performances in Cummington. The repertoire has included short works from the Renaissance through the modern era, as well as larger works with faculty orchestra including John Corigliano’s Fern Hill and Franz Schubert’s Mass in G.
Campers also have the opportunity to sing in small vocal chamber groups (Mini Sing).
Private Lessons and Solo Study
Students have at least one lesson each week with their assigned instrumental teacher and can work on solo repertoire in addition to chamber music. Students also have the opportunity to participate in studio classes with their instrumental teachers, as well as in group classes on various topics relating to their instrument.
Composition
Students who are interested in composition can participate in weekly composition meetings and work privately with composition faculty and guest composers-in-residence. Recent guest composers include Reena Esmail, Missy Mazzoli, Martin Bresnick, Katherine Balch, and Kareem Roustom. Students also have the opportunity to present their work in the weekly concerts and/or in the composers’ concert in the final week.
Recreation
There are many forms of recreation available at Greenwood, including a clay tennis court, a pool, ping-pong tables, and arts-and-crafts supplies. Soccer, softball or frisbee games often fill a beautiful summer evening. Campers also enjoy taking walks and runs around Greenwood’s idyllic surroundings. We host a camp-wide Treasure Hunt, charades and Capture-the-Flag games every summer.
Dining
The Greenwood community shares three meals each day, cooked by a wonderful Kitchen staff. Campers take turns serving as waiters throughout the summer. Greenwood accommodates all allergies and dietary needs, and is a completely nut free environment.
